Project Brief

In 2017, Highland Park United Methodist Church acquired the Schreiber UMC campus with a goal of transforming the sleepy North Dallas neighborhood church into The Grove, a vibrant satellite campus catering to the numerous young families nearby. Because of our past project experience with HPUMC, Echelon was asked to lead the effort to evaluate the existing facilities and determine how they could best be utilized to accomplish this new endeavor. Capitalizing on the good condition of the gymnasium, the team decided it should be renovated to become the Family Life Center, complete with a state-of-the-art LED worship screen and refreshed entry façade. The Classroom Building was revitalized inside and out, and the two buildings were connected with a new courtyard, creating a serene outdoor space for reflection, building community, and hosting events. A campus masterplan was created that embraces the legacy trees dotting campus and celebrates the potential for using outdoor spaces to grow ministry.
